FIOL AV – an audio-visual archival system

FIOL AV (AudioVisual) acts as a filing system for cataloguing and retrieving folk music and dance. The system enables the presentation of audio and video recordings, as well as written documentation of tunes, directly into the computer through a coupling between a text database and storage devices containing digital sound, video and still images. The system was originally developed to accommodate Norwegian folk music and dance archival materials. Since 2001, Folkmusikens hus has further developed the system and now offers the software to other archives, most of them in Norway, Sweden and Finland. The system includes a Web interface, WebbFIOL, for the publication of archival material on the Internet.
